A journey into the microcosm

Under the expert guidance of our National Park Rangers, young and old visitors can immerse themselves in the exciting world of water and soil organisms. A handful of forest soil or a water sample you have taken yourself can be put under the microscope. You can discover tiny creatures that you have never seen before in this size: every single leg of a millipede, the cutting tool of an ant, the nozzle drive of a dragonfly larva and - with a lot of luck - even the birth of a water flea can be marvelled at!

Exploring wilderness in the alluvial forest

Join a National Park Ranger in the search for wilderness in the floodplain landscape around the Weidendom. Shaped by the dynamics and power of the Enns, the floodplain forest is constantly changing and always has new surprises in store for us all. As the European counterpart to tropical rainforests, it is home to a particularly large number of animal and plant species, which we discover together. Find out which trees like to have wet feet and which rare bird species breed nearby.

Adventure wild meadow

Wild meadows have become rare and so have their inhabitants. Thanks to gentle mowing with a scythe, there is a particularly species-rich meadow area at the Weidendom. A National Park Ranger will show you how you can go on a journey of discovery in a wild meadow and, in addition to iridescent beetles and bees in search of nectar, also track down a Russian bear or a red-winged snare shrike.
