Admont: Landesforste get new boss
After more than two decades as Director of the Steiermärkische Landesforsten, DI Andreas Holzinger is going into well-deserved retirement. His successor, Dr. Lutz Pickenpack, takes over a company with diverse tasks on 1 March.
"After 11 years in private forestry in a similar position and 5 years in the Provincial Forestry Service in Graz, I am looking forward to the exciting task at the Styrian Provincial Forests. I am particularly attracted by the dual function: on the one hand, I am the director of the Landesforste business enterprise, and on the other hand, I am also the department head for "Forest and Wildlife Management" in the Gesäuse National Park. So I have nature conservation tasks on my agenda as well as the work of a classic forestry operation. One of many exciting fields of activity will be the infrastructure in the National Park, which largely belongs to the Styrian Provincial Forests. This includes, for example, the campsite in Gstatterboden and bookable alpine huts, which are very much in demand. The challenges for the next season will be the Gasthof zur Bachbrücke and above all the gastronomy area in the National Park pavilion in Gstatterboden. We hope to find good solutions in the near future," says Lutz Pickenpack.
"In the Wirtschaftsbetrieb Landesforste, we currently have all hunting grounds well leased and the timber price is at a good level. The major challenges facing forestry are adapting to climate change and coping with its immediate consequences, such as increasing bark beetle and storm damage, which we are already feeling," Pickenpack continued.
Pickenpack concludes: "I would like to thank my predecessor for the very comprehensive handover of duties and wish Andreas Holzinger all the best in his retirement, although, I have already heard, as President of the Forest Educators in Austria he will still be available for guided tours in this area for some time to come".
