Press release 14.12.2020

For those interested in animal welfare and clean air, the popular New Year's Eve rockets are anathema. The National Park warns against their use.

At the end of the year, the shooting virus is rampant in parts of the population. For some, firecrackers and flares are part of the festive mood, but they are probably not aware of the damage they cause. Although - awareness is on the rise! Meanwhile, advertisements can be found with the following text: "Book a stay at one of the firework-free holiday parks and experience New Year's Eve without firecrackers. Ideal for a New Year's Eve holiday with dog or baby!"

Firing fireworks is generally prohibited in local areas (Pyrotechnics Act). Some people don't care, others pepper their euros "legally" at the edge of town.

The fine dust pollution of the air caused by fireworks has been studied many times. The Swiss Federal Office for the Environment therefore recommends that people with respiratory or circulatory diseases avoid the vicinity of fireworks. There is a connection between corona diseases and fine dust, our pets are shocked, and last but not least, birds and other wildlife are unnecessarily chased. And in the spring, our organic farmers get to pick up the trash from the fireworks from the pastures. Many good reasons for not using fireworks! And if you have too much money, you can donate it, there are plenty of aid organisations. What could be better than starting the new year with a clear conscience?
