Austria's first golden eagle breeding was the topic at the National Park Forum 2023. Magdalena Kaltenbrunner and Alexander Maringer from the Nature Conservation & Research Department presented the results of National Park research on the \"kings of the air\" in the Ges\u00e4use. It is very pleasing to note that a stable population of these birds with regular breeding successes has been recorded in the Ges\u00e4use National Park for years. The report on the equipping of three birds with GPS transmitters was certainly one of the highlights of the evening. Through this, researchers hope to learn more about the dispersal and behaviour of these majestic birds. \"Not only for the alpine-wide eagle research project, but also for me personally, the transmittering of the three young eagles was a special event. Even I as a researcher have never had the opportunity to get so close to a free-living eagle until now,\" Magdalena Kaltenbrunner is pleased to say. \"But the eagle is not the only focus of the National Park's research. Other birds of prey such as the peregrine falcon and the hawk owl are also being studied in detail,\" Kaltenbrunner continues.<\/p>\n

National Park Director Herbert W\u00f6lger also reported news from all departments at the National Park Forum. For example, the increased ranger activities in the National Park partner schools. Samples of regional specialities from the Ges\u00e4use partners rounded off the evening.<\/p>\n
