New exhibitions in the Gesäuse National Park

With fascinating exhibitions and the opening of a photo art gallery in Admont, the Gesäuse National Park is setting an exciting example in the artistic exploration of nature and wilderness.

Since 1 May, a picture show of the special class can be admired in the "Alte Säge" in Gstatterboden: "UNKNOWN WORLDS - A journey through the microcosm of insects & spiders"..

The fascination of macro or micro photography lies in seeing things that are not visible to the naked eye. One of the best experts in this special photographic technique is the multi-award-winning photographer John-Oliver Dum. With his highly magnified photographs of insects, he brings out details that would otherwise remain hidden to the naked eye and reveals the underestimated beauty of these animals. At first glance, John-Oliver Dum's photographs seem almost surreal: the fascinating face of a spider, iridescent butterfly scales or the eye of a fly on which individual pollen grains can be made out. He is able to depict all of this in a sharpness and splendour of colour that at first makes it hard for the viewer to believe that these are real photographs. But that is exactly what they are. John-Oliver Dum has perfected an art that only a few people in the world have mastered. He has acquired the necessary knowledge for it himself over the years. In the meantime, he has won many prizes in numerous photography competitions, including best European in the field of science photography in the renowned Nikon Small World contest in 2021.

The special exhibition "Discovering Unknown Worlds - A Journey into the Micro World of Insects & Spiders" can be seen from 1 May to 31 October 2022 every Wednesday to Sunday with free admission in the gallery "Alte Sägehalle" in Gstatterboden.

With the vernissage "Animal Collaborations of the local artist Katrin Woelger from Frauenberg, the new FOKUS Gallery of the National Park Photo School in Admont will be opened at the same time on 22 May 2022 at 6:00 pm. Katrin Woelger lives and works in Vienna and Frauenberg, and has been working with salt since 2008. The artist oscillates between life art, performance, intervention and interaction. In the salt sculptures shown, animals or even the weather were the actual designers of the artworks. They formed the blocks with different structures, as each animal took "its salt" from the respective block with an individual strategy and, so to speak, "unique handwriting". The salt for these blocks comes from the Salzkammergut, it is extraordinarily pure and snow-white. This exhibition is framed by artistic photographs of the animal "employees".

FOCUS - the new gallery of the National Park Photo School is a meeting place for image and word, for photography and lecture. In changing exhibitions, photographers and artists are presented whose special view of nature is intended to serve as a source of inspiration and sensitization. The FOKUS Gallery wants to enable, inspire and activate the sensual encounter with art and nature and, together with the programs of the National Park Photo School, contribute to a deeper understanding of nature.
